October 10… Today would have been Daniel Pearl’s birthday. If I am not mistaken, he would have turned 44. I am not sure how long I have known our birthday’s were a day apart, and perhaps this only came to mind as a result of me recently reading his wife’s book about his abduction and murder, but it’s been on my mind all week.
I have no idea, not even a little bit, what he must have gone through, the pain his wife and parents feel, or what his son must feel to know his father was murdered by terrorists just months before he was born.
So, today would have been Daniel Pearl’s birthday, and his family remember it. Somehow, I would like them to know that I remember him on this day too.
Simply uncomprehending how such a beautiful human being could have been destroyed by the thugs who murdered him so brutally … I shall not soon forget what man can do to man in the name of religion …
